A handsome Victorian Davenport desk crafted in richly figured burr walnut with delicate inlaid decoration throughout. Featuring a leather inset writing surface, fitted stationery compartments beneath the lift-up top, and four drawers to each side, this compact writing desk offered both elegance and practicality in the Victorian home.
The exceptional burr walnut veneers display wonderful colour and figuring, complemented by decorative stringing and inlaid motifs to the front and fall. Raised on original castors and retaining its fitted interior, it remains one of the most distinctive and desirable forms of nineteenth-century English furniture.
Presented in as-found condition with age-related wear, minor veneer losses, historic repairs and patina consistent with its age. The interior retains evidence of a long working life, adding to its authentic character.
