A beautifully presented framed display from The Freycinet Collection, featuring a limited edition facsimile of an original 1818 drawing by French explorer and artist Jacques Arago, together with the accompanying engraver's proof by Marais.
Titled "Nid d’Autour trouvé à L’Ile d’Irk-hatighs, 7bre 1818" (Nest of a bird of prey found on Dirk Hartog Island, September 1818), the work documents an extraordinary nest encountered during the Freycinet expedition to Western Australia.
Produced from originals held by the State Library of Western Australia, each facsimile was issued in a strictly limited edition of just 50 copies and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This example is individually numbered and professionally framed with descriptive plaque.
An unusual piece of Western Australian exploration history, combining scientific observation, maritime exploration and early colonial art.
