A beautifully modelled French chalkware (plâtre) figure featuring a young boy and girl in classic interwar European dress. These sentimental plaster statues were produced in France from the 1920s through to the 1950s, often sold in provincial décor shops and patisseries as decorative home pieces.
This example shows the hallmarks of French chalkware: soft pastel hand-painting, expressive faces, warm ochre tones and a lightly textured finish. At 47cm tall, it’s an impressive decorative piece with a charming nostalgic presence.
