A charming English chintz-pattern pin or trinket tray produced by Grimwades Ltd, Staffordshire, in the popular “Old Cottage Chintz” pattern.

The surface is densely decorated with polychrome floral sprays over a soft pebble-textured ground, finished with a gilt-edged rim — a classic decorative style associated with British ceramics of the interwar and early post-war period.

The reverse bears the printed Grimwades – Made in England mark, together with the pattern name “Old Cottage Chintz.”

🏛 Curatorial Note

Chintz wares flourished in Britain between the wars, reflecting a renewed appetite for warmth, domestic comfort, and decorative abundance following the austerity of World War I.

Small trays such as this were commonly used on dressing tables for jewellery, pins, or hair accessories, and today remain highly collectible for cottage, English country, and vintage interior styling.
