Early Australian studio pottery mug, signed and dated 1937 by Ella Pedersen.

Hand-thrown ceramic vessel featuring a cream earthenware body with deep iron-brown glazed rim and handle, pedestal foot, and expressive hand-modelled fish and aquatic plant relief decoration.

This piece dates to the pre-war period, when Australian studio ceramics were still emerging and most works were produced as individual pieces rather than formal production lines. Signed and dated examples from the 1930s are increasingly scarce, particularly pieces attributed to female makers.

The decoration shows strong character and period charm, with natural variation and glaze pooling consistent with early studio work.

A highly decorative and collectable example of early Australian pottery.
