Dutch Immigrant Travel Trunk – Netherlands to Sydney

A fascinating survivor from the great post-war migration era. This compact timber and metal-bound travel trunk is believed to have accompanied a Dutch immigrant family from the Netherlands to Australia, retaining remnants of its original travel labels, including a Sydney destination label.

Constructed with timber slats, galvanised metal panels and reinforced steel corners, the trunk displays the honest wear and patina accumulated through decades of travel and use. Layers of hand-painted lettering and transport markings tell the story of a working life long after its ocean voyage, making it a wonderful piece of Australian social history.

Ideal as a decorative storage piece, coffee table, display prop, or addition to a migration, transport or industrial collection.

Condition:
As found condition with wear, rust, losses and age-related marks consistent with extensive use. Original labels remain partially intact. Please refer to photographs.
