A genuine late Victorian salt-glazed stoneware ginger beer bottle embossed BILLIN & WIGLEY / ADELAIDE.
Billin & Wigley were Adelaide bottlers during the late nineteenth century, and their embossed stoneware bottles remain popular with collectors of Australian advertising, brewing and colonial bottles.
Finished in attractive buff stoneware with a rich brown Albany-slip glazed shoulder and blob-top lip, this example displays crisp embossing and wonderful character developed over more than a century.
An excellent display piece for collectors of South Australian stoneware or Australian advertising bottles.
Condition
Good antique condition with strong, well-defined embossing.
There are small chips and wear around the base and minor wear to the lip consistent with age and use. No obvious cracks or repairs.
