A superb mid-Victorian cased ambrotype presented in its original leather-covered wooden case with gilt brass mat and velvet lining. The quarter plate ambrotype depicts a well-dressed family group of three, offering a remarkable glimpse into everyday life during the 1860s.
The case remains in very good original condition with attractive embossed leather, working clasp and intact hinges. Internally, the rich burgundy velvet pad shows expected wear consistent with age, while the gilt brass mat beautifully frames the image. The ambrotype itself displays excellent contrast and detail, making this an impressive display piece and an important survivor from the early years of photography.
A wonderful addition for collectors of early photography, Victorian antiques, genealogy, social history or decorative curiosities.
