This unusual antique Scottish brooch is fashioned from a preserved grouse foot, mounted with an engraved silver cap featuring a traditional Scottish thistle motif. The centre is set with a faceted amber-coloured stone, likely citrine or citrine-coloured glass, a common feature on Victorian and Edwardian Scottish sporting jewellery. Grouse foot brooches and kilt pins were worn as symbols of good luck and were especially popular from the late 19th century onwards.
The brooch retains its original pin fitting and presents well with the natural claws and feathering intact.
