A beautifully presented Victorian sixth-plate ambrotype housed in its original thermoplastic case, depicting a seated gentleman with two young children. The portrait is framed by its original gilt brass mat.
The highly detailed thermoplastic backing case features a finely moulded pastoral scene with figures and floral borders, a classic design from the mid-19th century. The brass hinges are present.
Family group portraits of this quality are becoming increasingly sought after, particularly when retained in their original backing case. An evocative piece of Victorian social history, equally suited to collectors of early photography, genealogy, Americana or decorative antiques.
