A poignant late Victorian tintype (ferrotype) portrait depicting a mother seated with her young child. The image remains remarkably expressive despite age-related losses to the emulsion, giving it an evocative, almost painterly quality.
Tintypes were produced on thin lacquered iron rather than glass, making them an affordable and popular portrait format during the late 19th century. They are highly collectable today for their social history and haunting aesthetic.
This example is offered loose, complete with its original gilt brass mat.
