A charming mid-century ceramic figure depicting a long-haired dog carrying a basket filled with puppies, designed as a decorative spill vase. Pieces like this were produced for export during the 1940s–1950s, when Japanese potteries supplied whimsical animal wares to Western markets.

The modelling is light-hearted and narrative in style, with hand-painted facial detailing, soft ivory glaze, and green-highlighted basket handle. The open basket and rear cavity function as small spill vases—originally intended for flowers, grasses, or simply as an ornamental mantelpiece feature.

These novelty animal ceramics were hugely popular in the post-war period and remain sought after today for their nostalgic character and cottage-style appeal.
