Before automatic dial telephones became widespread, rural telephone subscribers generated the ringing current by turning the side crank, alerting the local exchange or neighbouring subscribers on party-line systems. Inside the timber cabinet are the original induction coil, magneto mechanism and factory wiring diagrams, providing a fascinating glimpse into early telecommunications.
This example retains its original Kellogg handset, cloth wiring, side crank and internal components, making it an excellent display piece for collectors of telephones, industrial antiques or early communications equipment.
