A scarce Victorian ceramic toothpaste pot produced by John Gosnell & Co., London. The transfer-printed lid features a classical female profile and the advertising slogan "For Beautifying and Preserving the Teeth & Gums", together with the wording "Cherry Tooth Paste" and "Patronized by the Queen".
Dating from approximately 1860-1880, these pots originally contained tooth powder or toothpaste and were sold through chemists and perfumers throughout Britain and the Empire. The surviving base adds to its desirability, as many examples are found as loose lids only.
Condition:
Original lid and matching base. Age-related crazing, light staining and wear consistent with Victorian use. No obvious major cracks or restoration visible from the photographs.
Dimensions:
Approx. 7.5 cm diameter
