Antique Chinese Porcelain Ink Paste Box Set with Silk Presentation Case – Five Dragons

A beautiful antique Chinese scholar's desk set comprising five porcelain lidded paste boxes housed in the original silk-covered fitted presentation case.

Each circular box is finely decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a traditional five-clawed imperial dragon chasing the flaming pearl amongst clouds. The matching lids and bases fit neatly within the bespoke silk-lined case, complete with bone or ivory-effect toggles and an ink calligraphy label to the lid.

Originally intended for holding finely ground seal paste, pigments or inks used in Chinese calligraphy and painting, these sets were prized accessories of the scholar's studio.

The boxes remain in excellent condition with bright decoration and glossy glaze. The presentation case shows age-related staining and wear to the silk lining consistent with its age, adding to its authenticity.

A highly decorative and unusual display piece for collectors of Chinese antiques, Asian decorative arts or calligraphy objects.
