A beautifully made antique wooden box with brass cladding and decorative studded borders. The domed lid and long narrow form suggest it was originally used to store pens, documents, or small desk items.
The timber body is reinforced with brass sheet and detailed with repeating punched brass decoration. The box opens on brass hinges and retains its original clasp. Interior is a simple timber cavity with good honest age and wear.
Pieces like this were commonly produced in India in the late 19th–early 20th century for export during the British colonial period, combining traditional woodworking with decorative brass work.
