A refined late-Victorian / Edwardian biscuit barrel in deep cobalt blue jasperware, decorated in crisp white relief with classical figures, cherubs, urns and stylised trees in the neoclassical taste.
The ceramic body is housed within substantial silver-plated mounts, including a fitted lid with turned finial, swing handle, pierced rim detailing and three bun feet. The interior retains its original glazed ceramic liner.
This elegant form was popular in well-appointed English households at the turn of the 20th century, intended for biscuits or sweetmeats, and today displays beautifully as a decorative object or cabinet piece.
