A beautiful large-format Royal Doulton Pastoral Seriesware plate featuring a countryside scene of a mother carrying her child through a meadow. Produced in the late 1920s–1930s, these pastoral plates are admired for their warm tonal washes, Impressionistic landscape backgrounds, and character studies evocative of rural English life.
The plate is framed by Doulton’s distinctive tree-silhouette border, a dramatic ring of bare branches and circling birds that gives the central vignette a striking, almost theatrical depth. The glaze shows the typical gentle age crazing found on many early Doulton Art Deco pieces.
